Something about Margaritas
The name “Margarita” is Spanish for “Daisy.” This drink has many myths of origin, and while the authenticity of each story is often disputed, we do know it was widely introduced to Americans when United States citizens began crossing the border into Mexico, so they could drink alcohol during prohibition. In 1953, Esquire Magazine published the very first margarita recipe. The drink was, and is, especially appreciated for hitting all the flavor high notes at once: sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. Basically, the margarita has it all. What more can one desire in a cocktail? The basics ofwhat’s in a margaritaare fairly straight forward. Although there are slight variations within recipes, this cocktail generally consists of a simple blend of tequila, Triple Sec, (or orange liquor) and lime juice. Margaritas may be served on the rocks, or blended—as a sort of slushy—and are often presented in a glass rimmed with salt. (Because we all know: salt, tequila, and lime are amazing together). The incredible flavor and refreshing aspects of the margarita continue to make it a popular drink around the world.
